At The Store, we recognise our responsibility to operate thoughtfully, reducing our environmental impact while making a positive contribution to Oxford and the community around us.
Our approach to sustainability is embedded in the way the hotel has been designed, restored and operated. From the sensitive transformation of a historic Oxford landmark to the choices we make every day, we are committed to continually improving our environmental performance.
A More Sustainable Building
The Store has achieved BREEAM Excellent, recognising the building’s performance across areas including energy, water, materials, waste, health and wellbeing, and sustainable land use.
By adapting and reimagining the former Boswells department store, we have also given new purpose to an important part of Oxford’s architectural and social heritage.
Green Key Certified
The Store is proud to hold Green Key certification, an internationally recognised standard for environmental responsibility and sustainable operation within the hospitality industry.
The accreditation reflects our ongoing commitment to responsible practices throughout the hotel and requires us to continually monitor and improve our environmental performance.
Reducing Our Impact
Across the hotel, we look for practical ways to reduce our consumption of energy, water and other resources.
This includes encouraging the responsible use of energy and water, reducing unnecessary linen and towel laundering, minimising waste wherever possible and continually reviewing how we can operate more efficiently.
We also invite our guests to be part of these efforts through simple choices during their stay, including reusing towels and being mindful of energy use.
Responsible Choices
Our commitment extends to the products, ingredients and partners we choose to work with. Wherever possible, we seek to make responsible purchasing decisions, support local and British suppliers, reduce unnecessary waste and consider the environmental impact of our supply chain.
Across our restaurants and bars, seasonality and provenance play an important role in how we approach our menus and ingredients.

Sustainability is about more than environmental impact. As an independent Oxford hotel, we want The Store to contribute positively to the city in which we operate.
